The Department of Chemistry & Physics at Franklin College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry position beginning in August 2020. The position is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. The ideal candidate for this position will offer an engaging General Chemistry course, as well as courses in Analytical Chemistry and Instrumental Analysis for science majors. The opportunity exists for the new hire to develop an elective course of their choosing in their second year. Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching, a commitment to engaging students by creatively utilizing our existing analytical instruments (GC-MS, AA, HPLC etc.) either through course deliveries or special projects, the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment to diversity, and a genuine interest in working with undergraduates in a small-college liberal arts setting will be given preference. Applicants with Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and college-level teaching experience are highly preferred. However, those with Ph.D. in a closely-related will also be considered. ABD candidates will be required to have completed their Ph.D. by August 10, 2020.
The hire will join the department and the college at a time of exciting curricular change, and a renovated and expanded science building that highlights student research and collaboration. The historically strong Chemistry program is committed to delivering fundamentals needed in the market today through increasingly immersive and hands-on methods of teaching and learning. The college is embarking on a similar initiative campus-wide.
